Similar to the way the blood vessels carry blood around the body, the lymphatic system, which is a network of tiny tubes, takes fluids from your horse’s tissues, filters it through the lymph nodes, and delivers it back into the veins that empty into the heart, which helps to maintain good blood pressure. 

Along the way, your horse’s immune system is also able to find and clear anything harmful. When this system gets disrupted, your horse can have issues with poor circulation and immune response. 

Horses are particularly prone to lymphatic issues because their lower legs have no musculature and rely only on compression of the foot during motion to propel fluid up and out of the legs.

The EQ Press is a patented pneumatic dynamic compression device we designed to fit the contours of your horse’s front and back legs all the way up to the elbows and stifles. Because of this, the EQ Press is able to actively push lymph fluid up and out of your horse’s legs in order to help remove waste products and metabolites, reduce inflammation, enhance the immune response, and promote overall health.

For Athletic Recovery:  When your horse works hard, your horse’s tissues have a greater demand for nutrients and oxygen and also a greater need to clear waste products. This demand suddenly and drastically decreases at the end of the work out. While your horse’s body adjusts, fluid can build up to more than the lymphatics are able to handle, resulting in swollen legs and joints. For this reason, using the EQ Press after work, and particularly after strenuous competitions, may help your horse recover and get back in the ring again in less time and with optimal performance.

For the Treatment of Swollen “Stocked Up” Legs: When your horse is kept in a stall for prolonged periods of time, whether due to bad weather or recovery from an injury, your horse’s feet do not get enough natural compression to propel lymph fluid back up the legs. This can cause the legs to swell.  Using the EQ Press during these times will improve your horse’s lymph drainage and both resolve and prevent your horse from stocking up with continued use.

For the Treatment of Lymphangitis: Unlike stocking up, a much more painful and serious condition called lymphangitis occurs when your horse’s lymphatic system is inflamed, usually from a wound and the infection that subsequently develops. Once your horse has suffered from lymphangitis, the lymphatics unfortunately become scarred and unable to function properly, making your horse predisposed to having swollen legs and also prone to additional bouts of lymphangitis in the future.  Use of the EQ Press during an initial episode of lymphangitis has the potential to resolve inflammation more quickly and hopefully limit scarring of the lymphatic system.  If your horse already has scarring, using the EQ Press routinely will help improve your horse’s lymphatic drainage resulting in less swelling and hopefully less future bouts of lymphangitis.
